Holcombe Duo

Holcombe Duo

English alphorn duo Helen and Neil Grundy welcome you to our website

As French horn players, we both developed an early interest in the sound and romance of the alphorn. ------------------------------------------------------------ Although the alphorn is deeply rooted in Swiss tradition, we are keen to widen interest in the instrument and its music in Britain. July 31st - Brookdale Club, Bramhall. Welcomed guests to Swiss National Day celebration and performed before and after fireworks. An excellent evening. Photos

August 5th and 6th - On our way to Switzerland we stayed at an excellent B&B, 'Chez Leslie' at Colmar, Alsace, France. http://perso.calixo.net/~vmuhlenl/uk/cl1.htm We played on the terrace to an appreciative audience from neighbouring houses.

August 7th - 24th - Holcombe Duo's first visit to Switzerland in 2010. We played on many occasions, entertaining tourists and locals. We took part in two Alphorn festivals: Maennlichen Grosses Alphorntreffen http://www.jungfrauzeitung.ch/artikel/105469/ Photos

and the Beatenberg Alphorntreffen on Alp Chuematt. PhotosWe performed at the Alte Post Restaurant, Grindelwald on three occasions. The Strassenfest on each of the last two Wednesdays of the Summer Season turned out to be rather damp occasions. It was so wet on the second Wednesday the Town Band and Dancers cancelled leaving the jodel choirs, music group and Holcombe Duo to 'brighten' the evening. Impromptu performances were given at Kleine Scheidegg, Shynige Platte, Interlaken, Alpiglen, Almend and Grindelwald train station!

Photos taken in Switzerland will be uploaded and available to view soon.

October 16th - 23rd - Visit to Interlaken.

November 19th - £266 collected for Children in Need. Holcombe Duo entertained travellers at Piccadilly and Victoria Rail Stations, Manchester and visitors to the German Christmas Market in St Annes Square. Thank you to all those who generously donated.
